OBITUARY – LEO DE RUYTER

Leo DeRuyter, loving husband, father, devoted grandfather, brother and friend, passed away March 9th, 2009 in Corona, CA. Leo was born on January 8th, 1929 in Ilpendam, Holland.

Leo came to America with his family on July 4th, 1947 where he became a proud U.S. Citizen. He lived for a brief time in Artesia, Santa Ana, San Diego, before settling in the Corona area with his wife Joanne of 47 years. Together they raised 5 children.

He was a local Corona businessman owning Bourbon Tree Liquor and Leo DeRuyter Carwash for many years before retiring in 1996. Leo was a long time parishioner of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. He will be deeply missed.

Leo is survived by his wife, Joanne; sons, David (Nancy), Greg (Desiree), Mark (Jennifer), and daughters, Leanne Perez and Nancy (Ken) Day; six grandchildren, Ken Jr., Christina, Ashley, Madison, Dylan and McKayla; brothers, Pete, George, Jake and Ed; sisters Mary, Ann and Dorothy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacobus and Alida DeRuyter; also his brothers, Qryn, Bill, John, and Neil DeRuyter and sister Margaret Kroon.

Viewing for Leo will be held on Thurs., March 12, 2009 from 4-7pm at St. Matthew Catholic Church with a Vigil at 6:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be Friday, March 13, 2009 at 10:00am with burial to follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange, CA.
